Simulated WMS Case Study: A Distributor Workflow
A clearly labeled dummy distributor scenario with reproducible stock balances. Explore receipts and transfers and shipments without client-result claims.
SIMULATION / DUMMY DATA — Not a Nodic customer project or customer outcome. Demo Packaging Distributor is fictional. The business profile and cost assumptions are educational examples.
The operating scenario
One warehouse uses A-01 for storage and B-02 for picking. PKG-001 is a shipping box. Operators need both total quantity and stock location after every movement.
The scenario investigates a transfer recorded only as an issue. If the destination is never updated, the total is wrong. The example illustrates the behavior expected from consistent records.
Reproducible balances
| Step | A-01 | B-02 | Total units |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening | 240 | 0 | 240 |
| Receive 40 | 280 | 0 | 280 |
| Move 20 | 260 | 20 | 280 |
| Ship 30 from A-01 | 230 | 20 | 250 |
The default demo shipment uses A-01. Moving stock changes its location while preserving the total quantity.
Demonstration acceptance criteria
- A receipt increases the balance by the confirmed quantity.
- A transfer reduces the source and increases the destination equally.
- A shipment reduces inventory once.
- History records the movement type and quantity.
Reproduce these steps in the interactive WMS demo. Its results apply to the sample session. Barcode workflows and returns and concurrent operators are outside this demonstration.
Transparent cost assumptions
Assume 1,000 monthly orders with a 2% incident rate and IDR50,000 handling cost per incident. Multiplication gives IDR1,000,000 per month. This is an assumption-based calculation rather than measured field evidence. It does not claim that a WMS removes every incident.
Replace the inputs in the warehouse calculator. A real implementation review needs comparable before-and-after periods and consistent definitions plus records of other process changes.
Turn the example into requirements
Document allocation and picking rules and returns and cancellation handling. Define access controls and adjustment approval. Include ERP or marketplace integrations only where the operation requires them.
Prepare a WMS brief or use the implementation checklist. Publishing an actual customer case requires verified evidence and permission.
